The Best Portable Dab Rig Is a V5 with a Bubbler, Not an All-in-One eRig

“What’s the best portable dab rig?” is the question I get after “Core or V5?”, and my answer surprises people: it isn’t an all-in-one eRig at all. It’s the XL V5 heater on a Pico Plus with the Hubble Bubble. I’ve run every kind of rig there is since 2012, and this is the one in my pocket. Here’s why, the same way I’d explain it if you emailed me.

🎛️ It’s temperature controlled, not preset

an all-in-one eRig gives you four to six heat presets and that’s it. The V5 screws onto an iStick Pico Plus running autofire firmware, so you set the exact wattage you want, double-click, and it fires your programmed session without holding a button. The whole setup is a pocket mod with a heater on top. No base, no dock, no glass bubbler you have to baby in a bag. The Hubble Bubble hydratube goes on when you’re home and want water, comes off when you’re out, and the heater and mod ride in a pocket either way. an all-in-one eRig with its glass attached is a countertop device you carry; this is a portable you use.

🔧 It’s rebuildable

This is the part all-in-one eRigs can’t answer. When a chamber dies on an all-in-one eRig you buy a new chamber, and as of August 2026 that runs $75 to $100 from the big brands, with chamber warranties measured in months. When the V5 coil wears out you replace the coil, and a replacement heater cup is about $10. The mod, the glass, the carb cap, the hydratube all carry over, and so do your cups and coils across every device I make. 🔥 It cleans itself

Because you control the wattage, you can do burn-off cleaning: run the cup briefly at higher power and let the coil’s own heat burn the residue away. No torch, no iso soak, no cotton swabs jammed into a chamber you can’t take apart. That’s only possible on a variable-wattage mod, and it’s the single biggest reason my heaters last as long as they do. 🔋 And the battery swaps

The Pico Plus runs a removable 18650 (the kit ships with a genuine Sony VTC6). When it runs down you pop in a fresh cell and keep going. an all-in-one eRig with a dead internal battery is a paperweight until it finds a charger.
