eNail Coil Pin Layout and PID Compatibility

Every eNail coil we sell uses the same 5-pin connector. It has not changed since 2016, so a coil bought today plugs into a controller box we built nine years ago. This page is the wiring reference our manufacturer gave us, published so you do not have to email us for it.
The 5-pin layout
The connector is a keyed 5-pin XLR, so it only goes in one way. Here is what each wire does:

| Blue (two of them) | Heater power. These are the AC legs and they are not polarized, so either blue can go to either power pin. |
| Red | Thermocouple positive (TC+) |
| Black | Thermocouple negative (TC-) |
| Green | Ground |
We go by wire color rather than numbered pin positions, because that is how the diagram came to us from the factory. If your controller’s jack is documented by pin number, match it by function: two power, TC+, TC-, ground.
Coil specifications
- 120V, 150W on the standard US coils, running off a normal 110V wall outlet.
- 220-240V versions are available for the UK, EU and other 230V countries. Ask before ordering if you are outside the US, and note that on kits the handle itself is also rated for a voltage, so the coil alone is not always the whole story.
- Same connector across the whole range: 30mm and 25mm gooseneck flex coils, 6 wrap and 10 wrap, and the 30mm, 25mm and 20mm cord coils.
Will it work with a third-party PID?
Two things have to line up:
- The connector. Your controller needs a 5-pin jack wired to the functions above.
- The power rating. Look at the back of the connector on the coil you are replacing. It usually prints its voltage and wattage. If it reads 120V and 150W, you match ours and you are almost certainly fine.
If the old coil’s voltage or wattage is different, do not force it. The controller will not be able to regulate the new coil correctly, and that is the one case where we tell people it is genuinely not compatible.
As a real example, a customer asked Dabpress for their pinout and it came back as power (blue), power (blue), thermocouple positive (red), thermocouple negative (black), ground (yellow). That is the same scheme as ours with the ground wire in a different color, which is exactly the kind of match you are looking for.
